John Glen’s first time directing a Bond film was on ‘For Your Eyes Only’. He would be in that role for four subsequent 007 adventures, making him the director for the most movies in the franchise.
Scottish singer Sheena Easton was enjoying a string of hit singles which commenced with “Modern Girl” and “9 To 5 (Morning Train)” in 1980-1 when she recorded the title song for the latest James Bond motion picture. The theme was written by Bill Conti (who had scored the film ‘Rocky’) and Mike Leeson. Christopher Neil produced the recording, as he had on Easton’s recent chart hit singles.
The song was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe award. Around the world, the single was a smash. It peaked at #8 in Britain and #4 in America. The disc also made the Top 10 in Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Easton made history when the film hit cinemas. She became the first performer of a Bond song to feature in the main title sequence. This has since remained an honour for Sheena Easton only.
