Roger Moore first appeared as James Bond in ‘Live And Let Die’. His co-star in this adventure is Jane Seymour, portraying “Solitaire”. Among the locations for this film are New Orleans, Jamaica, Harlem and Pinewood Studios in England.
The title song was recorded by Paul McCartney and his new group Wings. This was the first rock band used for a Bond theme. The former Beatle composed “Live And Let Die” with his wife Linda McCartney. The Beatles’ producer George Martin handled production duties on the track. Before producers agreed to Wings performing the track, Thelma Houston was considered.
It may shock many to discover that “Live And Let Die” was the first Bond song nominated for an Academy Award. It lost to Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were”.
On the charts, Wings scored a hit. The single peaked at #2 for 3 weeks in America. It reached #9 in the UK and made the Top 5 in Canada and Australia.
