‘Diamonds Are Forever’ was produced by Harry Saltzman and Albert R. “Cubby” Broccoli. The idea for this 007 adventure came to the latter in a dream.

George Lazenby had portrayed James Bond in the previous film and the original 007 (Sean Connery) was persuaded back in the role for ‘Diamonds are Forever’. This would be his sixth and final time as the famous spy in an official Eon production.

With Connery back as Bond, Bassey was again recruited to perform the title song. John Barry composed the music and Don Black penned the lyrics. The single cracked the British Top 40.

“Diamonds Are Forever” further established Bassey as the yardstick for subsequent Bond songs. The song is as thrilling as “Goldfinger”, with foreboding lyrical imagery and a killer vocal delivery. Barry’s brief to Black was to “write it as if she’s thinking about a penis”!
