CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#167 TRUE Spandau Ballet
When Spandau Ballet released "True" in 1983, it was the band's 1st hit ballad. I asked lead singer Tony Hadley in an interview in 2012 what his approach was at the time of recording the track: "I've got to say, it's a hard song to sing, "True"...  it sounds... easy but there's lots of little nuances. It was a tough thing to record, that one".
"True" was penned by group member Gary Kemp. The band co-produced the track with Tony Swain and Steve Jolley. The single became their biggest hit, reaching #1 in the UK and Ireland. It also peaked in the Top 10 on the charts in America, Australia, Europe, New Zealand and Canada. The song sounded miles away musically from the New Romantic sound of breakthrough hit "To Cut A Long Story Short".
As the 1980s came to an end, Spandau Ballet's chart run had wound down. The group split in 1989. Brothers Gary and Martin Kemp pursued acting. The former even landed a role in the box office hit film 'The Bodyguard'. Hadley released a solo album in 1993 and continues to perform to this day. Litigation between the band members soured relations; but all was resolved in 2009 when the group re-formed. 'Once More' was an album that contained 2 new songs.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
