THIS CENTURY'S 200 MOST ESSENTIAL SONGS. Update: #130-121.
THE 200 MOST ESSENTIAL SONGS
FROM THE FIRST 15 YEARS
OF THIS CENTURY
Now that we are 15 years into the 21st Century, it’s apropos to look back over the 200 songs since 2000 that have made the greatest impact on the sound of music as it stands in 2015.
To be eligible for the Top 200, a song must have officially appeared on an album, CD single  or as a download between Jan. 1, 2000 and December 31, 2014.
130 GET LUCKY
DAFT PUNK featuring PHARRELL WILLIAMS  [2013]

Daft Punk recruited Pharrell to handle guest vocals with the uber- cool Nile Rodgers from Chic to infuse funk into this celebratory track that mixed retro with present day grooves.
129 WE ARE NEVER EVER GETTING BACK TOGETHER
TAYLOR SWIFT [2012]
Taylor Swift shook off her country roots and embraced pop with this crossover release. She co-wrote this with Swedish hit writers Max Martin and Shellback. It helped launch the pop superstar phase of her career.
128 IRREPLACEABLE
BEYONCE` [2006]
A close-up image of a brunette woman who is looking forward. She wears soft make-up, which consists of black eyeliner, pink lipstick and earrings. On the top, the words "Beyoncé" and "Irreplaceable" are written in white letters.
Beyoncé dropped the empowering track  "Irreplaceable" and it resonated enought to become a worldwide smash.
127 ARE YOU GONNA BE MY GIRL
JET [2003]

The Australian group Jet executed a no-frills  track with the raw elements of an archetypal rock song.
126 SO WHAT
PINK [2008]

Pink's string of hits continued with this in-your-face, take no prisoners track declaring her defiance. She co-wrote the pop/ rock song with Max Martin and Shellback (the latter dominate the pop scene).
125 DRAGOSTEA DIN TEI
O-ZONE [2003]

This was an unlikely global hit from Romania. It proved to be a popular Eurodance earworm hit. It soon climbed to the top in Europe and #3 in Britain and made inroads in the USA and Australia.
124 NO MORE DRAMA
MARY J. BLIGE [2001]

Mary J. Blige shows how to deliver a killer R&B song. The lyrics ooze a genuine exasperation and her husky vocal performance reinforces its message. The idea of incorporating the theme from TV soap "The Young And The Restless" was ingenious.
123 DANCE FLOOR ANTHEM
(I DON'T WANNA BE IN LOVE)
GOOD CHARLOTTE [2007]

Punk pop hit that proved to be popular, if not authentic.
122 BOOTYLICIOUS
DESTINY'S CHILD [2001]

Fueled with undeniable sexuality, Destiny's Child upped the ante with this universal hit. Whether or not we were ready for that jelly, the term "bootylicious" has since become a part of the vernacular. The track's use of Stevie Nicks' 80s hit "Edge Of Seventeen" is 1 of the best examples of effective sampling.
121 CRY ME A RIVER
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE [2002]
A blueish colored portrait of a young blonde-haired man who is wearing a black shirt and a black leather jacket. In the left bottom corner is written his name "Justin Timberlake" and the track's title 'Cry Me a River' in white letters.
Timbaland extracted a more mature and soulful vocal from J.T. as he reinvents his image by shirking off his *NSYNC past. This track made others take notice of Timberlake's obvious talent.
Another 10 songs added tomorrow.
