THE BROADWAY ALBUM:
 BARBRA STREISAND

 [1985]
Barbra Streisand was a Broadway sensation before she conquered the cinema screen and record charts. For her 1985 release 'The Broadway Album', the Oscar, Emmy and Grammy Award winning entertainer returned to the Great White Way. "Putting It Together" is cleverly used to open the album, featuring interjections that reflect the doubt others had prior to the album's release. Steadfast, Streisand persisted and was rewarded with a new #1 album. Many great musicals are represented in the track listing; including "West Side Story", "Porgy And Bess", The King And I" and "Showboat". No less than 7 of the dozen songs were co-written by Broadway legend Stephen Sondheim. Streisand's impeccable voice wraps itself around the material in a manner that is unparalleled. The tracks allow the vocalist to switch styles and moods smoothly. This album worked well by serving the public definitive and creative interpretations of songs that are beloved. Streisand has since tended to weigh down movie and musical tribute albums with too many selections most of the public is unfamiliar with. Fortunately, on 'The Broadway Album', she demonstrates how it is done most effectively.
Highlight tracks:
* If I Loved You
* Somewhere
* Not While I'm Around
* Something's Coming
* Send In The Clowns
