BEFORE IT WAS A HIT XXXII: Bette Davis Eyes. Continues next week.
BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
Bette Davis Eyes

Hollywood screen legend Bette Davis was the subject of a global pop hit when Kim Carnes released a song referring to the actress. In 1981, "Bette Davis Eyes" topped the charts in America (for 9 weeks), Europe, Canada, Australia and South Africa.
Her remake was driven by Bill Cuomo's magic on the synthesizer. His input radically altered the song from the original recorded by 1 of its co-writers, Jackie DeShannon. The singer/songwriter had scored hits in her own right as well as penning songs for other artists. She wrote "Bette Davis Eyes" with lyricist Donna Weiss. DeShannon's original version was included on her 1975 album 'New Arrangement'.
