These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Of all of George Harrison's contributions to The Beatles' recorded output, "Something" stands out as his most beloved songs. He presented his idea to the group as they worked on the 'Abbey Road' album. It became the first Beatles A-side not written by either John Lennon or Paul McCartney when issued as a single in late 1969. The disc reached #4 in Britain and topped the charts in America, Canada and Australia.
Harrison had earlier offered the ballad to Joe Cocker, who recorded it on his 1969 self-titled LP. By the time this version had been cut, The Beatles had decided to include "Something" on 'Abbey Road'.
