MASTER BLASTER (JAMMIN’)

Stevie’s interest in reggae music had been keen for some time. He had shared a stage with Bob Marley in 1975 and again 4 years later. The latter performance inspired Stevie to pen the song. Sadly, as the single was charting around the globe, Marley’s health was deteriorating. He died of cancer on May 11, 1981. The song served as the lead single for the ‘Hotter Than July’ album. As well as topping the R&B Chart, the disc reached #5 Pop in America. In Britain, the single peaked at #2. It was nominated for a Grammy, but lost to George Benson’s “Give Me The Night”.
