From New York’s Broadway and London’s West End to stages across the globe, Caffè Lattè has compiled a list of 100 of the best songs from stage shows. These are all songs created specifically for the stage productions and nottheatrical versions of movies or jukebox musicals (eg. “The Lion King”, “Saturday Night Fever” or “Mamma Mia!” and “Jersey Boys”).

I AM WHAT I AM

La Cage Aux Folles

Drawing inspiration from the French play and screen adaptation, “La Cage Aux Folles” was transformed into a musical. It opened on Broadway in 1983. The songs were composed by Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein was its librettist. Arthur Laurents was the original director on Broadway.The production collected 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. “I Am What I Am’ was soon adopted as an anthem for marginalized groups.
