Mention has already been made on this blog of Paul Simon's ability to draw inspiration from various genres, cultures and musicians. On "Love me Like a Rock", Simon incorporates gospel. He penned the song himself. On it, he is joined by the legendary Dixie Hummingbirds. This gospel vocal group formed in 1928. The track was recorded at the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studios and was included on his 'There Goes Rhymin' Simon' LP. Released as a single in 1973, it climbed to #2 in America.
