#792 ANGIE Rolling Stones
There will always be disagreement as to the inspiration behind this - one of the Rolling Stones' best recordings. Was it about David Bowie? Or his wife Angela? Others suggest it was Keith Richards' new born daughter, or his beloved Anita Pallenberg. Regardless of who that "Angie" was, this is a sensitive ballad with Jagger applying an impassioned vocal. The musicianship hits the target, augmented by strings. Composed by Richards and Mick Jagger , it was released in 1973 and featured on the group's 'Goats Head Soup' LP. The single reached #1 in the USA, Australia, Canada and in many European countries. In their native UK, it peaked at #5.
