#782 SATURDAY IN THE PARK Chicago
Chicago would shift musical gears following this single, the last to prominently feature the group's jazz application. It's all here: a bouncy beat, those soaring horns and rays of sunlight bursting through the speakers. The lyrics - from group member Robert Lamm - perfectly paint the scene... a sunny summer's day in a busy park.
The single was released in 1972 from 'Chicago V'. On the US chart, the disc peaked at #3. Subsequent singles generally leaned towards an adult contemporary direction, including ballads such as "If You Leave Me Now", "You're the Inspiration" and "Look Away".
