1964 was a watershed year in rock music history. Everything that had gone on prior was to be overshadowed by Beatlemania and the British Invasion. The Fab Four changed rock 'n roll forever. Buddy Holly had hinted at the possibility of a self-contained performer; writing & recording songs of their own. His untimely death meant that remained largely unfulfilled... until now. What followed was a relentless stream of other British acts that dominated the pop world: The Rolling Stones, The Animals, Gerry & The Pacemakers, Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw, The Searchers, Herman's Hermits and countless others.
Meanwhile, in the USA, Bob Dylan released "The Times They Are A- Changin'".  The "Blue Beat" craze is embraced via Millie Small's "My Boy Lollipop".Motown Records saw The Supremes rack up a series of #1 singles. Mary Wells scored with "My Guy"; Martha & The Vandellas soared with "Dancing in the Street" while The Temptations and Marvin Gaye made the charts too.
