The definitive list of 200 songs from the movies, recorded by by rock & pop acts since the start of the Rock Era in 1955.
To be eligible, the songs need to have been first heard in association with a film from the last 60 years (although some exceptions do exist where the song gained a higher profile after its use in a motion picture)- so no songs from “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Miserables” or “The Sound Of Music” and other films that first started out as stage musicals.

Sam Smith has the honour of performing the 1st Bond song to reach #1 on the UK chart. 'Spectre' is the latest instalment of the 007 franchise. This is expected to be the last with Daniel Craig playing James Bond.

 "Help!" was the title song for The Beatles' 2nd feature film. Richard Lester directed the Fab Four in the movie. The single topped the charts in Britain, America, Europe, Canada and Australia.

Madonna played the title role in the comedy drama which featured the energetic "Into The Groove". While the hit appears in the film, it was not included on the soundtrack album. This strategy possibly explains its #1 success in Britain, Europe, Japan and Australia.

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey co-starred in the romantic musical 'Dirty Dancing'. "Hungry Eyes" was 1 of the new songs featured on its soundtrack album. Eric Carmen's single peaked at #4 in the U.S. and Australia.

The heartfelt ballad "Out Here On My Own" from the film musical 'Fame' was nominated for an Academy Award. Siblings Lesley (of "It's My Party" fame) and Michael Gore wrote the American Top 20 hit.

 Prince packed his soundtrack album for 'Purple Rain' with catchy songs. "Let's Go Crazy" was 1 of its 2 #1 hits. With 5 singles lifted off the LP, it's no wonder it reached #1 in the USA, Canada and Australia.

THE MORNING AFTER

 Disaster movies became a lucrative genre in the 1970s. Box office smash 'The Poseidon Adventure' started the trend. "The Morning After" was performed by Maureen McGovern but Carol Lynley was seen "singing" in the film. The stellar cast also included Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine and Shelley Winters. The song earned an Academy Award. McGovern also sang the Oscar-winning hit from another disaster film, 'The Towering Inferno' . That 1974 motion picture featured the ballad "We May Never Love Like This Again".

Gene Wilder starred in and directed the romantic comedy 'The Woman in Red'. The forgettable film gave Stevie Wonder 1 of his biggest hits. The Oscar & Golden Globe-winning "I Just Called To Say I Love You" was a worldwide #1 smash.
