PARTNERS: BARBRA STREISAND

 [2014]
Barbra Streisand is paired up with a diverse range of male vocalists on 'Partners'. The duets span a variety of genres, including jazz, country, classical, blues, adult contemporary and pop. Each partner draws out different qualities from the seasoned singer / actress. When Streisand originally recorded "New York State Of Mind", the relatively unknown Billy Joel's profile was raised. On this album, the 2 join forces on the tribute to the Big Apple. She has a duet with her son Jason Gould that demonstrates he has inherited her singing ability. Andrea Bocelli adds class to the track listing; the combination of his soaring vocals with Streisand's golden voice on "I Still Can See Your Face" is sublime. The closing track is "Love Me Tender", a posthumous duet with Elvis Presley. It's a hint of what they might have sounded like had the 2 co-starred in the film 'A Star Is Born' before he was replaced with Kris Kristofferson. It is a shame there aren't more legends on this album to really make it special, given Streisand's status. A female version of 'Partners' is apparently in the works, with a posthumous duet featuring Whitney Houston.
Highlight tracks: I Still Can See Your Face; What Kind Of Fool & Evergreen.
