Sad that your favourite Eurovision song didn’t qualify for the Grand Final this year?  Here’s a look back at 40 great contenders from national selections  that never had a chance to make Eurovision history. Many of the songs listed are from Sweden’s Melodifestivalen where every year, a number of standouts are culled in the search for the song that will represent the country.
40 JUST A MINUTE
Rongedal
This Swedish contender from 2008 adopted a sound reminiscent of The Scissor Sisters.

39 WITHOUT YOUR LOVE
Panagiotis Koufogiannis
This tender ballad almost represented Cyprus in 2015.
38 I CAN'T GO ON LIVING WITHOUT YOU
Lulu
Lulu performed 6 songs on British TV. This one was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin before the pianist broke through as a star in his own right. The public selected "Boom Bang- A- Bang" which went on to win in 1969 (as part of a 4-way tie).

37 ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
Queentastic
In 2006, this group comprised of Norwegian drag artists vied for the chance to represent Norway with this upbeat dance track.

36 ME AND MY DRUM
Swingfly
Featuring a catchy chorus and rap verses, this song would have brought a fresh new sound to the ESC in 2011.

35 LET YOUR HEART BE MINE
Jenny Berggren
We first met Jenny Berggren as a member of Swedish group Ace Of Base. She attempted to represent Denmark with this solo track in 2011.

34 IN THE CLUB
Danny Saucedo
This Swedish pop idol definitely deserves a shot at Eurovision glory. The EDM track competed in 2011.
33 BLAME IT ON THE DISCO
Alcazar
Established Swedish pop group Alcazar should have had a chance on the ESC stage. It tried a few times. This disco track was an attempt in 2014.

32 PATRICK SWAYZE
Sigrid Bernson
With references to the American actor and the hit film 'Dirty Dancing', this upbeat song vied for glory in 2018. In the end, Sigrid Bernson was put in the corner in the Swedish Melodifestivalen Grand Final.

31 WILD CHILD
Ace Wilder
Swedish singer Ace Wilder made it to the Grand Final and finished in 7th place with this upbeat track.
