Sad that your favourite Eurovision song didn’t qualify for the Grand Final this year?  Here’s a look back at 40 great contenders from national selections  that never had a chance to make Eurovision history. Many of the songs listed are from Sweden’s Melodifestivalen where every year, a number of standouts are culled in the search for the song that will represent the country.

Sanna Nielsen

Sanna Nielsen had tried in vain a few times to represent Sweden at Eurovision. In 2011, she finished in 4^th place. Nielsen finally appeared on the ESC stage in 2014 with “Undo” which came 3^rd in the Grand Final held in Copenhagen.

Bianca Atzei

Capturing that feeling of being overpowered by love, this dramatic Italian song was a worthy contender at Italy’s San Remo Song Festival in 2017.
