SHOULD-A BEEN HITS

UNDER THE MAKEUP
A-Ha
2015
Sometimes having a breakthrough single that becomes ubiquitous can make sustaining the pop hooks well nigh impossible. A-Ha enjoyed global success with "Take On Me", a 1985 hit that remains a defining disc of its decade with an unforgettable music video. By 2014, the trio had broken up a second time. The Norwegian act re-united the following year to record 'Cast In Steel', a comeback album that spawned the single "Under the Makeup". Those familiar A-Ha harmonies were back, with a lush synth-pop foundation.  Despite its beauty, the single flopped.
