BEFORE IT WAS A
HIT SONG…
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

The release of the 'A New World Record' album lifted the Electric Light Orchestra to new heights around the world. Few of those that purchased the classic 70s LP would have known that one of its tracks, 'Do Ya", had initially been issued by another group that included lead vocalist Jeff Lynne.
ELO formed after The Move split. Lynne penned "Do Ya". The song was the B-side for "California Man", a single that peaked at #7 in Britain in 1972. Wood and Lynne produced the original version of the song. The latter was part of The Move's line-up, as was drummer Bev Bevan. The 3 would be founding members of ELO.
