100 SONGS THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

1957

💥8 Jailhouse Rock

Elvis Presley

Jailhouse Rock (1957 poster - one-sheet).jpgBy 1957, Elvis Presley had already scored several chart-topping smash hits. These included “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “Teddy Bear” and “Hound Dog”. In 1957, rock’s premier artist unleashed “Jailhouse Rock”. This was the title song from Presley’s third motion picture. The coming together of rock ‘n’ roll and the big screen had never produced as iconic an image as that of Elvis in a cellblock. It was concurrently fun and rebellious from the moment that indelible riff set the song in motion. The hit was written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Rock ‘n’ Roll now had its king.

          That’ll Be The Day

1955- Tutti Frutti
