Turkey first participated on the Eurovision stage in 1975. The country finally tasted victory at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003 with the entry “Everyway That I Can”. Sertab Erener performed the triumphant song in English.

The victory brought the Eurovision Song Contest to host city Istanbul in 2004, where for the 4th consecutive year, a new country finished in first place. Turkey continued achieving strong results in the years that followed.

In 2012, Turkey finished in 7th position at the Contest. This remains the final time the country has competed. A boycott ensued. At present, this policy is still in place. In recent years, there has been some speculation regarding the return of Turkey to the ESC.
