Ukraine first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2003. Its debut entry finished in 14th place. The following year, Ruslana snatched victory with the unforgettable song “Wild Dances”. The 2004 entry was performed in 2 languages: Ukrainian and English.

Kyiv was the host city for the Contest for the first time in the following year. Jamala’s triumph with “1944” in the 2016 ESC, gave Ukraine its second victory. Eurovision returned to host city Kyiv again in the next year.

Despite the conflict occurring in Ukraine following the Russian invasion, there will be a Ukrainian entry participating in the 2022 Contest. Its song is one of the strong contenders and may result in a third Eurovision victory for the embattled country.
