2011

AZERBAIJAN

 

Azerbaijan first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008. Eli and Nikki’s entry “Running Scared” gave the country its first win 3 years later. When Baku hosted the Contest the following year, it sparked controversy.

Since its debut, Azerbaijan has been represented on the Eurovision stage by some strong songs. Its victory took the ESC further than its usual geographic limits. The former Soviet republic was an exotic location for the Contest.
