Many believed the lyrics of "Alone Again (Naturally)" were based on events in Gilbert O'Sullivan's life. The Irish singer / songwriter has explained that the song is pure fiction. It enjoyed a non-consecutive 6-week residency of the US Pop Chart, interrupted briefly by Three Dog Night's "Black And White". The ballad also topped Billboard's Billboard's Easy Listening list for 6 weeks.
