#945-941 20 -a -day special fast track...

#945 TENDERNESS Diana Ross
Diana Ross entered her third decade in pop music with some of her best selling recordings. Her 'Diana' album teamed the former lead singer of The Supremes with Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. The latter 2 songwriter/ producers had formed the pivotal members of funk group Chic. "Tenderness" was one of this brash album's tracks. It found Ross embracing contemporary and even funky sounds. Edwards & Rodgers wrote and produced the cut. Released in 1980 on Motown, it became one of Ross' most successful albums.

#944 I CAUGHT YOUR ACT The Hues Corporation
The Hues Corporation was a disco group from L.A. that is best remembered for one of the earliest disco hits, "Rock The Boat". They struggled to repeat that single's success, but that's not to say that later recordings were no good. "I Caught Your Act" came out in 1977 and was the title track for the trio's fourth album. Written and produced by Wally Holmes, the song cleverly uses imagery from the theatre. The protagonist discovers that his partner is cheating on him. Despite the serious subject matter, this being a disco song, the beat is relentless and upbeat.

#943 HOW WILL I KNOW Whitney Houston
Written initially for Janet Jackson by members of the duo Boy Meets Girl (George Merill & Shannon Rubicam), "How Will I Know" was pitched to Arista Records and Jackson's reject went to rising star Whitney Houston. Narada Michael Walden took on production duties. The track also features her mother Cissy Houston's backup vocals. Randy Jackson (from "American Idol") also played on the track. The single was released in 1985, reaching #1 Pop & R&B in the US.

#942 THIS LOVE AFFAIR Gloria Gaynor
Gaynor swiftly became the premier disco artist. She recorded some of the genre's best songs and paved the way for many of the acts that followed in her wake. By the time she had cut "This Love Affair" for her 1978 LP 'Park Avenue Sound', disco was the dominant trend in pop music. The song was co-written by Gaynor with Conell Johnson Jr. and Al Stewart. Her most famous song was only 1 year away.

#941 SEND ME AN ANGEL Real Life
Forming in 1981, Australian group Real Life emerged as one of the most promising bands in the New Romantic genre. They broke through with their 1983 single "Send me an Angel", written by the band's singer/ guitarist David Sterry and keyboardist Richard Zatorski. It was included on their first LP, 'Heartland'. The single fared well, reaching #6 in Australia and  even topped the charts in New Zealand and Germany.
In 1989, a remix of the hit saw it become resurface, with Real Life even charting in the USA a second time.
