CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#97 WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS
THE BEATLES
(1968)
Writer: George Harrison

George Harrison offered his beautiful "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" for The Beatles to include on the band's self-titled album. The 1968 double LP is also known as 'The White Album'. Harrison composed the music while the group was in India. Upon his return to England, the guitarist decided to write a song based on a random page he selected off the bookshelf at his parents' home. The 1st words his eyes fell on were: "gently weeps".
After 3 attempts, Harrison felt frustrated with the group's principal songwriters, Paul McCartney and John Lennon. His vision for the song was not being realized. At the time, Harrison felt his song contributions weren't being respected. The Beatles' efforts with his new demo weren't reaching fruition.
Eric Clapton, a friend of the Beatle, emerged as the missing ingredient. Harrison invited the renowned Cream guitarist to play on "While My Guitar...". Although he was initially reluctant, Clapton agreed and joined the Fab Four in the studio. McCartney played piano on the cut which gains much of its power from Harrison's prowess on his instrument. "While My Guitar..." was released as a double A-sided release with "Ob - La - Di, Ob - La- Da" in 1968. The single reached #1 in Australia, Japan, Austria and Switzerland.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
