-Apple introduces the iTunes media player.
-Don Felder is fired from The Eagles. He sues Don Henley & Glenn Frey.
-Mariah Carey is hospitalized due to reported "extreme exhaustion".
-Aaliyah is killed in a plane crash.
-In the wake of the 9/11 attacks in the USA, a benefit concert is held to help victims and their families.
-Jennifer Lopez marries her backup dancer.
-"Pop Idol" premieres in Britain. Its spin-offs include "American Idol".
-The 1st ipod is on the market.

 Pop Idol logo.png    Pop Idol launched in 2001. The judges were: Simon Cowell, Dr Fox, Nicki Chapman and Pete Waterman. 
    
Music suddenly became more portable with ipods hitting the marketplace. The UK premiered "Pop Idol" and introduced us to Simon Cowell. The show would have an immense impact on the pop charts as well as spawn imitations such as "X Factor" and "Britain's Got Talent" (along with numerous local productions of "Idol" around the world). Alicia Keys, Gorillaz, India.Arie, Jay-Z and Daniel Bedingfield were among 2001's breakthrough acts on the charts.
