RHYTHM NATION 1814:
JANET JACKSON
A young woman photographed in black and white wears an all-black, military-styled uniform accented by silver-plated accessories. A spotlight shines on her face. To her left reads the text "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814".
 [1989]
Matching Janet Jackson with producer / songwriters Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis was a perfect marriage. Her career was going nowhere until they took over the steering wheel for the 1986 album 'Control'. Suddenly, Janet was as cool as her gifted brother Michael. The hit-making team spawned a chart run that yielded "Nasty", "What Have You Done For Me Lately", "Let's Wait Awhile" and the title track. Follow-up 'Rhythm Nation 1814' improved on the preceding album. The groove was still strong, but there is a greater variety in the songs and overall quality of this material. Janet is at her fiercest on "Black Cat". She delivers the romantic R&B of "Love Will Never Do (Without You)". Pop and soul concoction "Miss You Much" is another highlight. "Escapade" is a pop delight. This LP and its successor represent Janet's best recorded output. It ranks high among the best from the creative team of Jam & Harris too.
Highlight tracks: Love Will Never Do (Without You); Miss You Much & Escapade.
