LADY SOUL: ARETHA FRANKLIN

 [1968]
Aretha's coronation took place in 1967 when she unleashed the album 'I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You'. The Queen of Soul kept the new product churning out. Her next classic was 'Lady Soul' in the following year. This disc boasted some of the finest soul tracks ever cut. There are the hit singles: "Chain Of Fools" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman"; the R&B staples "Since You've Been Gone (Sweet, Sweet Baby)" and "Ain't No Way"; and covers of "People Get Ready" and "Groovin'". Aretha punches out every track with a confident strength that places her in a class all her own. Again, Jerry Wexler helmed the project as producer. He knew how to squeeze out the best from the Queen, as evidenced here. This album has no filler, with Aretha belting out one breathtaking performance after another.
Highlight tracks: Chain Of Fools; Since You've Been Gone (Sweet, Sweet Baby); Come Back Baby & (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman.
