One of the
gems from the songbook of composers Burt Bacharach and Hal David, this track was first
used in the stage musical “Promises, Promises”. It was a late addition to the show. At the time of its
inception, David had gone to visit his songwriting partner who was in hospital
with pneumonia. Dionne Warwick’s rendition
preceded the remake by Bobbie Gentry. The latter’s interpretation topped the UK
chart.
