The film 'The Rose' premiered in late 1979. Its title song was released as a single the following year. In 1981, Bette Midler collected a Grammy Award in the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance category. Her victory was against tough competition: Barbra Streisand ("Woman In Love"), Irene Cara ("Fame"), Olivia Newton-John ("Magic") and Donna Summer ("On The Radio").
