N 2022 M

The Queen’s final year saw her reduce royal duties, with son Charles stepping in. She celebrated her Platinum Jubilee in February 2022. Among the highlights of the Concert event was her sketch with Paddington Bear.

Elizabeth was already the longest reigning British monarch. In June, she became recorded history’s second-longest monarch. After Boris Johnson officially resigned as Prime Minister, she appointed her fifteenth British PM, Liz Truss in early September. Two days later, it was announced that her health had declined. As family members gathered to be by her bedside at Balmoral Castle, thousands feared the worst. The Queen died that day in Scotland. She was succeeded by her son as Charles the Third.
