EUROVISION

1956-2022

THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SONGS

(in chronological order)

This year’s Contest will see the 70th song declared a winner. Caffè Lattè lists all of the past winning entries and other songs that have had a lasting impact on the Eurovision Song Contest.

2013

The Eurovision Song Contest introduced another innovation. All semi-finalists were placed in 2 separate bowls. Random picks would determine which semi-final a country would compete in. Past voting patterns were considered in determining which countries would be deliberately kept apart in order to minimise the impact of bloc voting.

Armenia returned. Withdrawing in 2013 were Bosnia & Herzegovina, Portugal, Slovakia and Turkey. The latter has yet to return to the Contest. This left 39 countries to compete in Malmö. The Swedish location was host city for the second time.

ONLY TEARDROPS

Emmelie de Forest

Denmark

The last time Sweden had won Eurovision in 1999, the next winning entry was from Denmark (“Fly On The Wings Of Love” by The Olsen Brothers). The Danes repeated history in 2013 when Sweden’s 2012 entry preceded a new victory for a Danish entry. Emmelie de Forest arrived in Malmö as the favourite to win. She delivered, gathering 281points, leaving Azerbaijan as the runner-up with a score of 234.

IT’S MY LIFE Cezar

Romania

YOU AND ME Takasa

Switzerland

Heilsarmee - You and Me (cover).jpgThe idea behind the Swiss entry was bringing together generations. True to that message was the fact that the group included the Contest's oldest ever performer: Emil Ramsauer, aged 95 years. Unfortunately, the song did not progress beyond Semi-Final 2.
