ALL THE EUROVISION COUNTRIES: (21). More: tomorrow.

Caffè Lattè looks back on:

ALL THE

EUROVISION

COUNTRIES

The Eurovision Song Contest was first held in 1956. Back then, only 7 countries participated. In the decades since, dozens of other nations have joined the ESC family. As Europe changed, countries faded into history as new countries and new names emerged. Eurovision itself has expanded beyond the European continent; to Africa, the Middle East and the Southern Hemisphere.

Our spotlight looks back on every country that has competed – in chronological order.

1974

The 1974 Eurovision Song Contest famously saw ABBA take home the top prize for Sweden with the timeless “Waterloo”. Luxembourg had won in 1972 and again in 1973. While it hosted the Contest the previous year, the country declined to do it again in 1974. The UK stepped up and Brighton, England became the host city. Greece joined the ESC that year and competed against the other 16 participating nations.

XXI

GREECE

Greece debuted at Eurovision in 1974. During its 45 participations, the country has never finished in last place. In 2005, the Greek entry “My Number One”, performed by Helena Paparizou, gave the nation its first win. This year, Greece will hope to qualify during the second Semi-Final.
