As we prepare for the Paris 2024 Olympics... A feature on MUSIC ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS.

Today: 1896. Continues tomorrow.

As the world’s elite athletes compete at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Caffè Lattè will focus on the best music that emerged during each Olympiad. Each period considers songs from the years prior to the new Games.

SONGS ACROSS THE OLYMPIADS

The Modern Olympics were initiated by French man Baron Pierre de Coubertain, basing the concept around the games of antiquity held in Ancient Greece. As a tribute to the sporting event’s origins, Athens hosted the inaugural Games in 1986.

Around this time, most music was enjoyed around a piano at a public venue or in private residences, using sheet music. The first selections here are often published – not recorded- works.
