UNDER PRESSURE

Queen & David Bowie

In 1981, Queen and David Bowie had already established their places in British rock history. Together, they had changed music forever: Bowie with his frequent reinventions and Queen with its unique blend of flamboyance and hard rock. Both acts had reached creative heights by thinking outside the box: Bowie with classics such as “Heroes”, “Starman” and “Golden Years” and Queen with “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We Will Rock You” and “Another One Bites The Dust”.

An unexpected visit by Bowie while Queen was recording at Mountain Studios in Montreux, Switzerland led to the idea of a collaboration by the two pop music titans. Built around John Deacon’s bassline, the song evolved into “Under Pressure”. This timeless song inspired Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and is still a fan favourite of both acts.
