#1023 PLAYING TO WIN Little River Band
The Little River Band remains one of the major Australian musical exports and, in many ways, the group paved the way for those that followed in their wake such as Air Supply, Savage Garden and Crowded House. LRB formed in 1975 in Melbourne, Australia. Most members had proven themselves in seminal rock groups during the 1960s. Their country/ rock and harmonies made them any easy fit for American radio and record buyers. By the time the band recorded their 'Playing to Win' album in 1983-4, the long-standing line-up had changed radically. Original lead singer Glenn Shorrock and fellow founding member Beeb Birtles, as well as drummer Derek Pellicci were gone. John Farnham had taken over lead vocals.
"Playing to Win" was written by Farnham with group member Graham Goble. It was the title track from LRB's 1984 album produced by Spencer Proffer. Of interest is that the group's line-up at that time included former member of Cold Chisel, Steve Prestwich.
