#1040 STONED LOVE The Supremes
As the 1960s came to an end, it was announced that America's most successful group from that decade - The Supremes- was losing its lead singer. Diana Ross embarked on a solo career that eventually took off, but her old group was - in 1970- looking like the most likely to succeed. The trio, now with Jean Terrell, released 3 albums in that year and scored hits from all 3. Ross, on the other hand, was yet to dent the charts with a major smash.
"Stoned Love" was written by Frank Wilson (who also produced the track) with Kenny Thomas (but credited on the record as Yennek Samoht- his name spelt backwards). It was included on The Supremes' 2nd album without Ross: 'New Ways But Love Stays'. The single struggled for airplay as many radio stations assumed the song was about drug use.
