TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#1083 FLOAT ON The Floaters
Vocal group The Floaters recorded one of the smoothest and lushest examples of 70s soul music when they  cut the track "Float On". Released in 1977, it reached #1 in the UK. The song's concept came to James Mitchell Jr., a member of The Detroit Emeralds. The group owned a club where Mitchell's younger brother Paul Mitchell performed with The Junior Floaters. James decided to write material for this group, enlisting help from his bandmate Marvin Willis and composer Arnold Ingram. "Float on" revolves around the idea of each member of The Floaters (as they were known by this time) introducing himself in the song. Women responded. The record flew off the shelves.
