#791 WHEREVER I LAY MY HAT (THAT'S MY HOME) Marvin Gaye
Another amazing track from the influential soul singer that was Marvin Gaye, "Wherever I Lay My Hat" is a highlight from the Motown songbook. The track was written by him with producer Norman Whitfield and songwriter Barrett Strong. Despite its enduring appeal, the recording was surprisingly relegated to the B-side of the single "Too Busy Thinking About My Baby", issued by the label in 1962. The cut was included on Gaye's 'That Stubborn Kinda Fellow' LP. In 1983, the song was covered by Paul Young. His remake reached #1 in Britain. Its success revived interest in Gaye and his original. Sadly, a year later, the legendary Motown vocalist was murdered by his father.
