To be eligible, the acts involved contribute close to equal roles as lead vocalists rather than featured or guest vocals. The collaborations must be by acts that do not usually record together as regular duos (eg. Hall & Oates, Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel and Wham!).

THE ONION SONG
MARVIN GAYE & TAMMI TERRELL
Marvin-tammi-easy.jpgBy the time Marvin Gaye was recording a 3rd studio duet album with Tammi Terrell, her health had deteriorated significantly. She had been diagnosed with a brain tumour, which would claim her life a few months after the release of the 'Easy' LP. Gaye later alleged that most of its tracks actually were duets with Valerie Simpson. Terrell was simply too ill to perform on the bulk of the material. Simpson co-wrote "The Onion Song" with her then partner Nickolas Ashford. The 2 would later marry. They both contributed as producers for the album.
