BEFORE IT WAS A HIT XXVI: Gloria. Continues next week.

BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.
Gloria
Laura Branigan dropped one of the most memorable pop hits of the 1980s when she released "Gloria". Her version came out in 1982 and was soon at the top of the charts in America, Canada and Australia. In Britain, the disc climbed to #6. New English lyrics were written for Branigan to sing.
The song was originally an Italian pop hit performed and co-written by singer Umberto Tozzi in his native tongue. His version charted in various European countries, Australia and South Africa in 1979.
Some copies of the single featured Tozzi singing in Italian with an English translation on the flip side.
Each new song will be added to the spotify playlist named: ‘Before It Was A Hit Song’.  You can check out the earlier / original versions of the hit songs you know and love.
