BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG…

These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

I Want Candy

The Strangeloves recorded the first version of "I Want Candy". In 1965, the single peaked at #11. British new wave band Bow Wow Wow returned the song to the charts in 1982. The group's cover exposed the song to a wider audience than the original. It reached #9 in the UK and charted high in Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
