BEFORE THE HIT VERSION. This post: LXII- HOW DO YOU DO IT?
Continues: next week.
BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

In 1963, the British group Gerry and the Pacemakers released its debut single "How Do You Do It?". The disc reached #1 in Britain and #3 in Australia. Re-issued the following year in America, the single made the Top 10, as part of the British Invasion.
George Martin produced the track for Gerry & The Pacemakers. He had originally recorded it in 1962 with another aspiring band named The Beatles. The song was intended as the Fab Four's debut single. When The Beatles opted instead for their own "Love Me Do", Martin passed the song to Gerry & The Pacemakers. The Beatles' version remained in the vaults until its inclusion on the 'Anthology 1' album in 1995.
