These songs are well known
but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with
prior versions of the same song.
It’s My Party
Lesley
Gore had just turned 17 when "It's My Party" moved into the #1 position
on the US chart. The single spent 2 weeks at the top in June 1963. Her
hit was issued in the previous month. 
Helen
Shapiro had already recorded "It's My Party" for her 'Helen In
Nashville' album. Gore's version was however, released first. The
Chiffons also covered the song during 1963. It was included on their
'One Fine Day' LP.
In
1981, a remake by Dave Stewart (not the former member of The
Eurythmics) with Barbara Gaskin reached #1 in the UK as well as going
Top 10 in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
