These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Me And Bobby McGee

Kris Kristofferson co-wrote "Me And Bobby McGee" with Fred Foster. The song famously became a posthumous #1 single for Janis Joplin in 1971. It also reached the top in Australia. 

Kristofferson recorded a version of the country song himself for the 'Kristofferson' album which was issued in 1970. The original version was recorded by Roger Miller the previous year. This interpretation made the American and Canadian Country charts.
