These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Pink Cadillac

In 1987, Natalie Cole issued her 'Everlasting' album. The following year, one of its tracks, "Pink Cadillac", was lifted as a single. In the tradition of other hit tributes to cars such as "Mustang Sally" and "Little Red Corvette", Cole's single proved to be a winner. The disc made the Top 10 in America, Britain, Europe, Canada and Australia.

The song had originally been recorded by its writer Bruce Springsteen. It was used as the B-side of his 1984 #2 smash single  "Dancing In The Dark". The song later surfaced on a Springsteen compilation album entitled 'Tracks' in 1998.
