ESC HISTORY & STATISTICS: NON- EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AT EUROVISION.
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST 2019
THE HISTORY & STATISTICS
Jerusalem 1979
Jerusalem 1999Eurovision was conceived as a contest to unite the countries of Europe. From 1956- 1972, all participants represented regions on the Continent. In 1973, Israel joined the ESC family. The country has since won Eurovision 4 times, including in 2018. For this reason, Tel Aviv is the host city this year.

Lebanon was scheduled to compete in 2005, but withdrew as it could not recognize the state of Israel. This has held back other Middle Eastern / North African possible participants.
Tonight Again - Guy Sebastian.jpgIn 2015, Eurovision extended further than ever before, inviting Australia to participate. This one-off invitation has continued since. Earlier this year, it was announced that Australia will be able to compete for at least the next 5 years.
Plans to have an Asian – Pacific version of Eurovision have stalled.  This may influence Australia’s future in the European contest.
