LIVING FOR THE CITY
1973
Arguably the standout track on Stevie’s ‘Innervisions’ album is this epic track that lasts 7 minutes and 30 seconds. The song deals with the discrimination and civil issues endured by African-Americans. Along with Stevie’s mighty vocal, are guest voices that include his brother Calvin Hardaway, aide Ira Tucker Jr. and lawyer Johann Vigoda. The song was edited for release as a single, reaching #1 on the Billboard US Soul Chart and #8 Pop. In Britain, the disc peaked at #15. “Living For the City” also collected the Best R&B Recording Grammy Award.
